TLS 0.17.4 + Important Updates

Hey all, one more patch on this version. Almost entirely more polishing, plus some musical fixes for things that were above my pay grade (thanks, Lamsey!). So no need to replay if you've already finished, but if you're starting fresh, definitely use the new links in the previous post (discussion of this update can stay there too).

Now, with that released, it's time for some news. As I've hinted over the past while, I am running low on energy. I have a plan for dealing with it, and now is the time to announce it publicly.

What I want is not a total break, but a change of pace. I've been working on the same set of projects for months now, after all, and I think my brain needs some variety.

So I plan to take the next month to work on a mix of different projects. A short story set in the world of TLS is very likely, for example, and I might try to make a short, self-contained game. At the end of that time, I will give backers everything I create.

Then after that I will dive right back into TLS with renewed energy. I wanted to get this update out and fully polished first, both to finish the chapter and as a show of my commitment to the project.

Here's one bit of good news for anyone disappointed: the month doesn't start with this post. I may be getting 0.17.4 out now, but I haven't been working on it full time for the past several days. So I'm counting starting April 3rd, meaning I'll resume TLS work on May 3rd at the latest. NN development will be unaffected (it's just coincidence that the double update there is at the same time).

Also, since I don't want to have a month of radio silence, you'll get a full update from me here before the end of the month. I will report on new projects I've started/finished so you have a clear idea what's been done and what's to come. Backers will get weekly updates on Patreon as usual, of course.

I think this could be good for everyone. I get to change my routine up and you guys get some completed pieces of content. Though I can't say how much I'll accomplish during my break, I hope to have at least a few fun things to show everyone at the end of it. ^-^

  1. Did you forget the download link or is it backers-only for now?

  3. Thanks, Sierra!

Out of curiosity which event did the previous bugfix character change that is now working in 17.4? I have a 17.2 save I was going to use and figured I'd better check first.

    1. It solely smooths over changes between 0.17.x and previous versions (mostly 0.16.x).

    2. Do you remember which conversation that was? I'm asking so I know whether or not to update the walkthrough. I'm gonna hear about it for awhile if my math is wrong again.

    3. Nevermind, found it! Everything in that section of the wiki is fixed now.

  4. Enjoy your break, wouldn't mind if you take an complete break from it and us. (well besides NN, that would be mean :P)
Hopefully it's even more refreshing than you hope. ^-^

  5. Hey Sierra, do you plan on getting TLS illustarted with pictures in the future like NN?

    1. Yes, that is still my hope. I just haven't found another artist as professional as Nomo.

    2. Glad to hear that :)
TLS has such a great story and characters (in my opinion far better than NN(not that NN would be bad ;))) it just deserves some illustrations.

  6. Must try NN soon. This keeps me sane at home.. And at work on my mobile :p

  7. I won't say I'm not a little disappointed, because I am a self-entitled internet person and I'm here for Last Sovereign, not Noxian Nights.

But I am also very interested in the short story. Simon knows so many interesting people, and I'd very much like to know more about them; Hilstara and his first meeting during the last war, he and Wendel's married life, the halfling priestess climbing the ranks (or any of the church sects, really), or the Unwoman in the war eighty years past would probably be my favorites, but honestly there are SO MANY interesting avenues to take that you could make a book collection of Last Sovereign short stories and you'd still never be able to do them all.

    1. There are certainly a lot of potential stories there, but I'm afraid for this one I'm setting my sights on a story to engage someone not already familiar with TLS. If all goes well, it would be fun to do stories deeply in that world, but we'll see.

  8. While I can certainly sympathise with the need for a break, I can't help but be quite disappointed I will not be seeing TLS until June. The teaser is great and I can't wait to see the Doomed King take front and centre stage.

On a side note, I am surprised not to see a link to Hreinn Games (and vice versa) on front page of this blog. Would have thought you would link the blogs considering you have a hand in both TLS & NN

    1. While it's true the next chapter of TLS will be in a while, I hope that the things I have for you to read or play at the end of this month will tide you over at least a little!

As for links: Huh, I guess we just forgot. I will try to standardize them sometime.

  10. Thanks for all the work you have put into TLS, I've enjoyed it immensely so far. I CAN wait (barely) for the next chapter :) Hope your break is restive, relaxing and possibly a little rambunctious.

  11. Is there a scene replay system? I read about it on an older patch, but don't seem to find it ._.
    Great game btw :)

    1. Thanks! As for the scene replay, once you're far enough in the game, Simon will gain a skill called "Reflect" - use it to replay past scenes. ^-^

  13. Been meaning to ask this for a while: will the things you make during your break only ever be available to your patrons or will it become publically available as well?

    2. It will depend on the thing. For example, I'm pretty confident I'm going to 100% finish one game, which will follow the normal pattern: backers get it first, but it'll be publicly available a week later.

On the other hand, I've also written a smut piece. That will probably be given free to backers but otherwise just go up on my Amazon page. And I'm working on another piece of writing that might be made free eventually, but would be backers-only for longer than a week for timing reasons.

Those aren't the only possible outcomes, but that should give you the general idea.

    3. I am mostly concerned that i might miss out on anything related to The Last Sovereign because im not in a position to pay right now. Thanks for the quick response, and enjoy your break because you've earned it.

  14. Sorry to keep throwing this stuff out there while you're on break, but I noticed that Quest 43 "Steamy Encounters" was still in the log at the start of Chapter 3. I sort of get leaving Quest 6 "Introspection" in as complete, but it just seemed odd to have a one-off side quest there, too.

I replayed the Ardford chapter last night and I have to say that it was a really enjoyable chapter. Even when I knew what was coming it remained pretty fun.

  15. Don't even apologize. I think you deserve a long break. Really, you have given all of us a taste of TLS. I mean to me personally, this game gives the hypes. Its as though i am waiting for FFXV or witchers 3 whenever you makes me wait for each of your update.

Thx Sierra Lee, this game is just wonderful. It shows endless potential. But, what comes first is your health. You've been saying that you have been working on it full time. Yeh, no wonder your exhausted. Seriously, take a break, and drink a sip of latte while you look outside in the early morning, wondering how many people are playing your master piece and just love it. Give a smile to your effort to come this far. i am looking forward to your future work. Enjoy.

    1. Thank you for being so understanding! I love what I do, though, and I look forward to delivering TLS until its completion. Having said that, I've enjoyed this break and I think I will have some fun side projects for you guys - I hope you enjoy those too!

  16. 1st: Enjoy the break, i just found the game today and seeing the amount of work it has, a break is more than deserved;
2nd: is it normal for the game to crash when i try to go into the pond to get Simon's daughter the ingredients she wants?
